Principor
and Lime Street to Work with Anti-spyware Firm
WASHINGTON: Pest Patrol, a leading producer of spyware-detection software, has tapped Principor Communications and Lime Street Studios PR to help make it a leading voice in the debate over network security.
At least five state legislatures are now considering bills outlawing spyware, programs that install themselves on a user’s computer in order to track their movements. The issue is gaining momentum on the federal level, as well; hearings were planned on Capitol Hill last week, and anti-spyware bills have been introduced in both the House and Senate.
“We’re helping them shape their messages and get involved in the legislative process,” said John Jordan, Principor’s president. A VP from the company testified on Capitol Hill concerning the issue last year, and Principor was helping Pest Patrol submit testimony for last week’s hearing, as well.
Jordan said Lime Street is doing the bulk of the messaging work while his firm was handling the media and government relations.
A public education campaign regarding the dangers of spyware and how one can avoid the program is expected to follow the initial legislative battles.
